Loops is a popular email platform for SaaS teams. It handles product emails, marketing campaigns and transactional email in one place. If your SaaS mostly needs transactional email, such as sign-up confirmations, password resets and receipts, you may be looking for a Loops alternative that focuses on those.

This guide is for people who build SaaS products, sites and tools with Claude Code but don't write code themselves. It covers what Loops does well, when a transactional-only service fits better, the main options, and how SimpleSends works for people who don't code.

What does Loops do well?

Loops is built for software companies that want one platform for every kind of email they send. Its transactional email side is clear and well documented.

Here's how transactional email works in Loops, according to its docs:

  • You design each email in the Loops editor, or upload an MJML template (MJML is a markup language for email layouts). You add data variables: placeholders, such as a name or a reset link, that your project fills in for each send.
  • You publish the email, and Loops gives it a transactional ID.
  • Your project calls the Loops API with that ID, the recipient's address and the data variables. An API is a way for one piece of software to ask another to do something.

Two things stand out. Editing an email doesn't touch your code: you edit a draft, and the published version keeps sending until you republish. And Loops has a hosted MCP server, listed in Claude's connector directory, that lets Claude send published transactional emails and edit email content. MCP is the standard that lets AI tools like Claude Code connect to other services. Here's what MCP is, in plain English.

When do you only need transactional email?

You only need transactional email when every email your SaaS sends is triggered by something a user did: sign-up confirmations, password resets, receipts, team invites and trial reminders. Newsletters and promotions are marketing email, which is a separate job. This guide explains how transactional and marketing email differ.

If that describes your SaaS, these details of how Loops works matter most:

What to knowHow Loops handles it
How you're chargedPaid plans are priced by subscribed contacts (the marketing contacts in your audience), not by sends
Transactional recipientsDon't count as contacts unless you also send them marketing email
Free planUp to 4,000 emails in any rolling 30 days, marketing and transactional combined, at up to 10 per second, with a small Loops footer
Paid plansNo cap on total sends, no Loops footer, up to 1,000 emails per second
Email designBuilt in the Loops editor or uploaded as MJML. Loops doesn't accept HTML sent from your code, because it prefers to keep emails out of your codebase

So a transactional-only SaaS can start on the Loops free plan. Once you need more than 4,000 emails a month, or want the footer gone, you move to a paid plan priced by contacts. If you don't need the marketing side at all, it's worth comparing services built only for transactional email. You can also see what you get on each free plan.

What are the main Loops alternatives for transactional email?

The main alternatives are Resend, Postmark and SimpleSends. Resend and Postmark are built for developers. SimpleSends is built for people who build with Claude Code but don't write code.

Resend charges by the number of emails you send. It has a hosted MCP server, also listed in Claude's connector directory, that covers domains, templates, API keys and sending. Its docs and dashboard are written for developers. For a closer look, see Resend alternatives for people who don't code and Resend vs Loops.

Postmark also charges by emails sent and focuses on transactional email. Its docs, setup guides and dashboard are written for developers.

SimpleSends is covered in its own section below.

What is working with Loops like day to day?

Setting up Loops for transactional email follows these steps, from its docs:

  1. Create a Loops account and enter the domain you'll send from. Loops recommends a subdomain such as mail.yourcompany.com.
  2. Copy the records Loops shows you into the DNS settings where your domain is registered, then click Verify Records. DNS is the internet's address book, and these records prove you own the domain. Changes can take up to 72 hours, though they're usually much quicker. Here's how domain verification works.
  3. Create each transactional email in the editor, add its data variables and publish it.
  4. Create an API key, a secret code that lets your project use your Loops account, and store it safely in your project. Here's what an API key is.
  5. Have Claude Code add the sending code that calls Loops with each email's transactional ID.

Day to day, changes to wording or design happen in the Loops editor, followed by a republish. Delivery problems, such as bounces, show on each email's metrics page in the Loops dashboard. You can connect Loops to Claude through its connector, but the editor and dashboard stay at the center of how Loops is meant to be used.

How is SimpleSends different for people who don't code?

SimpleSends is a transactional email service built for people who build with Claude Code but don't write code. Setup uses the same building blocks as any email service: an account, a verified sending domain, a secret key and a small piece of sending code in your project. The difference is what working with it is like after that.

  • Plain English throughout. The sign-up, connect steps and help are written without developer jargon.
  • Everything after sign-up happens in the chat. You don't need a dashboard for day-to-day work. You brief Claude Code the way you'd brief a person.
  • Claude Code does the whole job. It designs, writes, builds and changes every transactional email your SaaS sends.
  • Problems get sorted in plain English. Claude Code can read your send logs and delivery status through SimpleSends, so it can tell you whether an email went out and help work out why one didn't.

When a real customer resets their password, your live project sends the email through SimpleSends directly. Claude Code isn't involved at that point. The connection is for building, testing and checking.

To connect SimpleSends:

  1. Sign up on the SimpleSends website and follow the steps there to set up the email address you'll send from. To send from your own domain, this includes adding a few DNS records where your domain is registered.
  2. In Claude Code, open Customize, then Connectors, choose Add, then Add custom connector. Use these details:
FieldWhat to enter
NameSimpleSends
MCP server URLhttps://mcp.simplesends.com/mcp
  1. When Claude prompts you to connect, log in to SimpleSends.
  2. Back in the Claude Code chat, tell Claude Code: "I've connected SimpleSends for all transactional email." It takes it from there, including adding what your project needs to send email.

If you're moving over from Loops, follow up with a brief like this:

Tell Claude Code

My SaaS currently sends its emails through Loops. I'd like SimpleSends to handle all my transactional emails instead, including the welcome email, password reset and receipts. Keep the same wording for now, match my brand colors, and send me a test of each one before anything goes live.

Claude Code works out which emails your project sends, rebuilds each one for SimpleSends, and sends you a test of each to approve.

Which Loops alternative should you choose?

If you write code or want to edit code yourself, Resend and Postmark are built for you, with docs and dashboards aimed at developers.

If you build with Claude Code and don't write code, SimpleSends is built for you. Sign up once, connect once, and Claude Code handles your transactional emails from then on. To plan the full set, start with the transactional emails every SaaS needs.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use Loops only for transactional email?

Yes. Loops sends transactional emails to any address, and those recipients aren’t added to your audience or counted toward billing unless you also send them marketing email. The free plan’s cap of 4,000 emails in any rolling 30 days covers all sends combined. Paid plans remove that cap and are priced by subscribed contacts.

Why don’t transactional emails have an unsubscribe link?

Transactional emails are messages a person needs because of something they did, such as a password reset or a receipt. That’s why services send them even to people who unsubscribed from marketing. Loops, for example, leaves the unsubscribe link out of transactional emails and still sends them to unsubscribed contacts.

Do I need to verify my domain again if I switch from Loops?

Yes. Every email service gives you its own DNS records to add where your domain is registered, so the new service can prove it’s allowed to send for you. With SimpleSends, you follow the steps on the SimpleSends website when you sign up. You can remove the Loops records once your project no longer sends through Loops.

Will my users notice when I switch services?

They don’t have to. Keep the same from address, subject lines and wording, and ask Claude Code to send you a test of each email before the switch goes live. Check that names, links and buttons all work, then switch over.

Does SimpleSends send newsletters or marketing campaigns?

No. SimpleSends is for transactional email: the messages your SaaS sends because a user did something, such as sign-up confirmations, password resets, receipts and team invites.
