Postmark Alternatives for People Building With AI (2026)

Postmark alternatives for people who build with AI and don’t code: Resend, SendGrid, Mailgun, Amazon SES and SimpleSends compared on price and Claude Code fit.

Quick answer

The best Postmark alternative depends on who does the work. Resend, SendGrid and Mailgun suit people who write code, and Amazon SES suits very high volumes. If you build with Claude Code and don’t write code yourself, SimpleSends is built for you: sign up and connect once, then handle your transactional emails in the chat.

If you're looking for a Postmark alternative, Postmark has probably started to feel like it was made for someone else. It's fast and reliable, but it's built for developers, and that shapes how you use it every day.

This guide is for people building a SaaS, site or tool with Claude Code who don't write code. We compare the main alternatives for transactional email (the one-to-one emails your product sends, such as a welcome email or a password reset) on who each is built for, cost and Claude Code fit.

Why do people look for a Postmark alternative?

The free plan is for testing. Postmark's free Developer plan includes 100 emails a month. It doesn't expire, but it's meant for testing and allows no extra emails. Paid plans start at $15 a month for 10,000 emails (Basic), with Pro at $16.50 and Platform at $18.

It's built for developers. Postmark's help leans on API documentation, SDKs (ready-made code libraries) and code samples. Setup covers sender signatures, domain records and a server token, Postmark's name for an API key. Our Postmark setup guide walks through each.

Connecting it to Claude Code means a configuration file. Postmark has an official MCP server with 24 tools for sending, templates, delivery checks and bounces. An MCP server is a connector that lets Claude Code use a service's tools while you build (see what MCP is). Postmark's server runs on your own computer: you add a snippet to your AI tool's configuration file with your server token, a default sender and a message stream name. Postmark also publishes skills, packs of instructions installed with a command that teach AI coding tools to write Postmark code. Both are useful, and both assume you're comfortable with developer tooling.

What should you look for in a Postmark alternative?

Look for a service written for people who work the way you do, a free way to start that suits your volume, and a Claude Code connection you can set up from on-screen settings. It also helps to know what stays the same. Every email service, SimpleSends included, needs the same basics:

What every service needsWhat it is
An accountWhere your settings and send history live
A verified sending domainA few DNS records (settings stored where your domain is registered) that prove you own the address you send from. See how to verify a domain for email
A secret keyAn API key: a password your live project uses to send through the service
A little sending codeThe part of your project that sends each email. Claude Code writes it

So the real differences are who the service is written for, what it costs and what working with it is like day to day.

The Postmark alternatives worth considering

Resend

Resend is a modern email service built for developers. Its MCP server is listed in Claude's connector directory, so you can add it from Claude's settings and log in to approve access. Our Resend vs Postmark comparison looks at the two side by side.

SendGrid

SendGrid, part of Twilio, serves developers and marketing teams. Its free option is a 60-day trial rather than a lasting plan. Twilio's official MCP server is in Claude's connector directory, but it only searches documentation; it can't act in your SendGrid account yet.

Mailgun

Mailgun, from Sinch, is an email API aimed at developers. Its free plan sends from one custom domain. Like Postmark's, its official MCP server runs on your own computer, set up with your Mailgun API key.

Amazon SES

Amazon SES usually costs the least per email ($0.16 per 1,000 on the Essentials plan new accounts start on). New accounts begin in a sandbox, a test mode that only sends to addresses you've verified, up to 200 a day, until AWS approves production access. AWS's MCP Server has an SES skill that works with Claude Code.

SimpleSends

SimpleSends is a transactional email service built for people who build with Claude Code but don't write code. You sign up and set up your sending address on our website, connect SimpleSends in Claude Code's settings once, and then work on your emails in the chat.

What is working with these services like day to day?

With the developer services, the dashboard stays part of everyday work: templates, send history, keys and settings live there, and the help assumes you can read code. Their MCP servers and skills let Claude Code take on more, which is a real step forward, but you still need to know what to ask for and how the pieces fit. Connecting them tends to mean install commands or configuration files.

That works well if you write code. If you don't, you're working in someone else's world.

How is SimpleSends different for people who don't code?

SimpleSends is built from the start for people who brief Claude Code instead of writing code. Setup has the same basics as any service. What changes is what working with it is like after that.

  • Plain English throughout. Sign-up, the connect steps and the help are written without developer jargon.
  • Day-to-day work happens in the chat. You don't need a dashboard. You brief Claude Code the way you'd brief a person.
  • Claude Code takes care of every email. It designs, writes, builds and changes every transactional email, so "set up all my transactional emails" is a reasonable brief.
  • Problems are explained in plain English. Claude Code can read send logs and delivery status through SimpleSends, so it can tell you whether an email went out and help work out why one didn't.

The chat is where you build. Once your project is live, real emails go out from your project through SimpleSends directly, without Claude Code or the chat.

How to connect SimpleSends

  1. Sign up on the SimpleSends website and follow the steps there to set up the email address you'll send from. To send from your own domain, this includes adding a few DNS records where your domain is registered. You can't sign up inside the Claude Code chat.
  2. In Claude Code, open Customize, then Connectors, choose Add, then Add custom connector. Fill in these settings:
SettingWhat to enter
NameSimpleSends
MCP server URLhttps://mcp.simplesends.com/mcp
  1. When Claude prompts you to connect, log in to SimpleSends.
  2. Back in the Claude Code chat, tell Claude Code you've connected SimpleSends. It takes it from there, including adding what your project needs to send email.
Tell Claude Code

I've connected SimpleSends for all transactional email. My SaaS currently sends its emails through Postmark. Look at every email it sends, recreate each one with SimpleSends, and send me a test of each so I can check them before we switch over.

Claude Code lists the emails it finds, rebuilds each one and sends you a test to approve or change. If a customer later says an email never arrived, ask the same way:

Tell Claude Code

A customer says they didn't get their welcome email after signing up yesterday. Can you check the send logs and tell me what happened?

Claude Code checks whether it went out and explains what it finds, such as a mistyped address or a bounce.

Which Postmark alternative is best for people building with AI?

If you build with Claude Code and don't write code yourself, SimpleSends is the Postmark alternative built for you. If you or your team write code and want to edit it yourselves, Postmark, Resend, SendGrid and Mailgun are all strong choices. If you send very high volumes, Amazon SES has the lowest cost per email.

Frequently asked questions

Is Postmark free?

Postmark has a free Developer plan with 100 emails a month. It doesn’t expire, but it’s meant for testing and doesn’t allow extra emails beyond that. For a live product, its Basic plan starts at $15 a month for 10,000 emails. Prices were checked in October 2026, so look at Postmark’s pricing page for the latest.

Can I move away from Postmark without rewriting my emails from scratch?

Yes. Ask Claude Code to look at the emails your project already sends and recreate them with the new service. If any of your emails are saved as templates inside your Postmark account, copy their wording and design out before you close it. Keep Postmark running until test emails from the new service arrive as expected.

Will my Postmark DNS records work with another email service?

No. Each service gives you its own DNS records to prove it’s allowed to send from your domain, so you’ll add a new set for the service you move to. You can leave the Postmark records in place until the switch is done, then remove them.

Do I need to know how to code to use a Postmark alternative?

You don’t need to write code yourself with any of them, because Claude Code writes the small piece of sending code your project needs. The difference is how much of the service is written for developers. SimpleSends is written in plain English, and day-to-day work happens in the Claude Code chat.

Which Postmark alternative is cheapest?

Per email, usually Amazon SES, at $0.10 per 1,000 emails on pay-as-you-go pricing. New accounts start in a sandbox that only sends to addresses you’ve verified, up to 200 a day, until AWS approves production access. It also needs an AWS account and works inside AWS’s developer tools.
