Resend vs Loops: Which Fits If You Don’t Code?

Resend vs Loops for people who build with Claude Code but don’t code: who each is built for, setup, pricing, and transactional vs marketing email. October 2026.

Quick answer

Resend vs Loops comes down to focus and pricing. Resend charges by emails sent and centers on transactional email sent from your code. Loops charges by marketing contacts, includes transactional sends on paid plans, and has you design emails in its own editor. Both are built for developers; SimpleSends is built for people who don’t code.

If Claude Code has suggested Resend or Loops for your SaaS emails, this Resend vs Loops comparison is for you. It's written for people who build with Claude Code but don't write code themselves.

You'll see who each service is built for, what setting each one up involves, how their prices work, and how each handles transactional and marketing email. At the end, we cover SimpleSends, a transactional email service built for people who don't code.

A quick definition first. Transactional emails are the one-to-one messages your product sends when someone does something: a welcome email after sign-up, a password reset, a receipt. (For more on the difference, see transactional vs marketing emails.)

Resend vs Loops: what's the quick verdict?

Both are built mainly for people who work in code. The biggest differences are what each one focuses on and what you pay for.

If you write code, or want to edit code yourself, either one is a strong choice. If you'd rather brief Claude Code in plain English and have it do the email work, read the SimpleSends section below.

How do you set up Resend and Loops?

Every transactional email service needs the same building blocks, so setup looks similar for both: an account, a verified sending domain, a secret key, and a small piece of sending code in your project.

StepResendLoops
1. Create an accountSign up on Resend's websiteSign up on Loops' website. You enter your sending domain during sign-up
2. Verify your domainAdd the domain on the Domains page, then add the DNS records it shows you where your domain is registered. Resend recommends a subdomain such as updates.yourcompany.comOpen Settings, then Domain, and add the records it shows you where your domain is registered. Loops recommends a subdomain such as mail.yourcompany.com
3. Create a secret keyOn the API Keys pageIn Settings, then API, choose Generate key
4. Build each emailClaude Code writes it in your project, or it's saved as a template in ResendDesign it in Loops' editor, add placeholders for details like a name or reset link, then publish it
5. Add sending codeClaude Code adds code that sends through Resend using your keyClaude Code adds code that sends the published email by its ID using your key

A few terms in that table:

  • DNS records are short lines of settings stored where your domain is registered. Adding the ones a service gives you is how domain verification works: it proves you own the domain, so the service can send email from it. Our guide to verifying your domain for email covers this step in plain English.
  • A secret key (usually called an API key) is a long password your live project uses to send email through the service. Loops warns it must stay on the server side and never be shown to your users.

Timing differs a little. Resend says domains often verify within about 15 minutes, though DNS changes can take up to 72 hours. Loops says it can take up to 72 hours but is rarely more than 24.

One Loops rule to know: you need your own domain. Free addresses from hosting platforms, such as ones ending in .vercel.app, can't be used because you can't add DNS records to them.

Connecting them to Claude Code

Both services offer an MCP server, which is a connector that lets Claude Code use a service on your behalf while you build. Both are listed in Claude's connector directory, so you can add either one from Claude's connector settings and sign in when prompted.

What each connector covers is different:

  • Resend's covers most of the service, including sending emails, templates, domains, API keys and request logs.
  • Loops' covers contacts, mailing lists, events and sending published transactional emails, plus other actions in Loops' API.

For a full walkthrough of the Resend route, see setting up Resend in Claude Code.

How do Resend and Loops prices compare?

Resend charges for the emails you send. Loops charges for your subscribed marketing contacts and doesn't charge separately for sends on paid plans.

How do they handle transactional vs marketing email?

Resend's main plans cover transactional email, with marketing email on separate plans. Loops handles product, marketing and transactional email in one place, with clear rules keeping them apart.

Resend

  • Open and link tracking are available on every plan.
  • Marketing emails (Resend calls them broadcasts) go only to existing contacts and are priced separately.
  • Send data is kept for 30 days on self-serve plans.

Loops

  • Transactional emails have no unsubscribe link and no open or click tracking.
  • To change a live email, you edit a draft and republish. The old version keeps sending until you do.
  • Each email has a metrics page showing send times, bounces and spam complaints.

What is working with Resend or Loops like day to day?

Both keep a dashboard at the center of daily work, where templates, keys, domain settings and send logs live, and their docs are written for people who work in code. Their connectors let Claude Code take on parts of the work, but you still need to know what to ask for and how the pieces fit together.

How is SimpleSends different for people who don't code?

SimpleSends is a transactional email service built for people who build with Claude Code but don't write code. Having a connector isn't what sets it apart; Resend and Loops both have one. The difference is who it's built for and what working with it is like once it's connected.

  • Built for people who aren't developers. The sign-up, the connect steps and the help are written in plain English, without developer jargon.
  • Everything after sign-up happens in the chat. You don't need a dashboard for day-to-day work. You brief Claude Code the way you'd brief a person.
  • Claude Code does the whole job. It designs, writes, builds and changes every transactional email your SaaS sends, from welcome emails to password resets and receipts.
  • Problems get sorted in plain English. Claude Code can read your send logs and delivery status through SimpleSends, so it can tell you whether an email went out and help work out why one didn't.

Here's how to connect it:

  1. Sign up on the SimpleSends website and follow the steps there to set up the email address you'll send from. To send from your own domain, this includes adding a few DNS records where your domain is registered.
  2. In Claude Code, open Customize, then Connectors, choose Add, then Add custom connector. Fill in the fields below.
  3. When Claude prompts you to connect, log in to SimpleSends.
  4. Back in the Claude Code chat, tell Claude Code you've connected it.
FieldWhat to enter

MCP server URLhttps://mcp.simplesends.com/mcp
Tell Claude Code

I've connected SimpleSends for all transactional email.

Claude Code takes it from there, including adding what your project needs to send email. Then you can hand over the rest:

Tell Claude Code

Please set up all the transactional emails my SaaS needs. Start with a list of which emails we need and when each one should go out, and show me a preview of each email before anything goes live.

Expect a plan first, then drafts to approve. Test emails are sent from the chat so you can check them in your own inbox. Once your project is live, real emails go out from your project through SimpleSends; the chat isn't involved. Not sure which emails you need? See which transactional emails your SaaS needs.

Frequently asked questions

Can I send from a free hosting address like .vercel.app with Loops?

No. Loops says you need your own domain, because you can’t add DNS records to the free addresses hosting platforms give you, such as ones ending in .vercel.app or .netlify.app. Resend also needs a domain you own and have verified before you can send. If you don’t have one yet, buy one from a domain registrar first.

Does the Loops free plan add branding to my emails?

Yes. On the free plan, Loops places a small “Powered by Loops” footer at the bottom of your emails. Paid plans remove it. Resend’s pricing page doesn’t list branding on its free plan; its free plan limits are about volume instead, with 3,000 emails a month and 100 a day.

Do people who unsubscribe still get transactional emails from Loops?

Yes. In Loops, a contact’s subscribed status doesn’t affect transactional emails, and transactional emails don’t include an unsubscribe link. That’s what you want for password resets, sign-in links and receipts, which people need whether or not they read your other emails. Loops asks you not to send marketing content as transactional email.

How long does domain verification take with Resend and Loops?

Resend says domains often verify within about 15 minutes of adding the DNS records, though changes can take up to 72 hours to spread. Loops says records can take up to 72 hours, are rarely slower than 24 hours, and often work within a few hours. With both, you check back and press verify again.

Are Resend and Loops billed monthly or yearly?

Resend’s self-serve plans are billed monthly only, with no annual plan or annual discount. Loops bills a monthly subscription in advance, and your tier is set by your number of subscribed contacts at each renewal. Loops doesn’t automatically move a paid plan back to free if your contact count drops; you cancel it yourself.
